Madhubala was born on February 14, 1933 as born Mumtaz Begum Jehan Dehlavi. She was a popular Hindi film actress who starred in several successful films in the 1950s and early 1960s.

Madhubala had many successful films following Mahal. With pressure to secure herself and her family financially, she acted in as many as 24 films in the first four years of her adult career.

Madhubala did have aspirations to appear in more prestigious films with challenging roles. Bimal Roy's Biraj Bahu (1954) being a case in point. As a star, Madhubala did ascend to the top of the industry. Her co-stars at the time were the most poular of the period were Ashok Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Rehman, Pradeep Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Dev Anand. The directors she worked with were amongst the most prolific and respected Mehboob Khan (Amar), Guru Dutt (Mr. & Mrs. '55), Kamal Amrohi (Mahal) and K. Asif (Mughal-e-Azam). Madhubala also ventured into production and made the film Naata (1955) which she also acted in.

Suddenly in the mid-1950s her films, even major ones like Mehboob Khan's Amar (1954), fared so badly commercially that she was labelled "Box Office Poison". She turned her career around in 1958, with a string of hit films Howrah Bridge opposite Ashok Kumar featured Madhubala in the unusual role of an Anglo-Indian Cabaret singer, embroiled in Calcutta's Chinatown underworld. She made a big impact with a daring (for the time) Westernized image, with her cascading locks, deep cut blouses, fitted Capri pants and tailored Chinese dresses.

It was the film Mughal-e-Azam that marked what many consider to be her greatest and definitive characterization as the doomed courtesan Anarkali. Madhubala finally succumbed to her illness and died on February 23rd, 1969, shortly after her 36th birthday.

Remember the sizzling fight scene between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Mr & Mrs Smith? Get ready to see Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor do the same in Agent Vinod. Yes, you heard right. Agent Vinod will have several combat scenes between Saif and Kareena. Incidentally, Kareena plays a spy, just like Saif, in the film.

The decision was taken after Kareena was finalised for Saif’s home production. The actress, who has always wanted to play a full-on action star like Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, will undergo rigorous training to get into an athletic shape. Kareena is expected to not only have some super-slick, hand-to-hand, heart-in-the-mouth combats with Saif but also her adversaries.

Kareena will play an undercover agent from another country (apparently Pakistan). Her Mata Hari like role will have shades of Mala Sinha in Aankhen and Rehana Sultan in the 1977 film, Agent Vinod.

But director Sriram Raghavan clarifies that Agent Vinod is not a remake of either film. “It’s a spy drama, which will have its roots in the films you’ve mentioned. But the only similarity to the Rajshri espionage film with Mahendra Sandhu and Rehana Sultan is the title, which the Rajshris so graciously gave us,” he said.

In fact Sooraj Barjatya, who has worked with Saif in Hum Saath Saath Hain and Kareena in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, had absolutely no qualms parting with the title Agent Vinod.

Saif confirmed Kareena’s role and said, “She does play an undercover agent from another country. Kareena will do everything I do in the film, and she’ll do it even better. She will kick butt better than all the other girls in our industry, that’s for sure.”

Commenting on the films the couple plans to produce together, Saif said, “We’ll definitely be producing films together. It will give us a chance to grow as actors. The idea is for both of us to grow together as human beings and artistes. Although Kareena’s name is not in our production logo, she is as much the producer of Agent Vinod as I. I prefer not to have our names in the production logo. All I want to do is make great films, live healthy, eat good food, read comic books and novels, exercise and have Kareena by my side. Asin Thottumkal debuted in a supporting role in Sathyan Anthikkad's unsuccessful Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001, at the age of 15. After taking a year out to pursue her education, Asin returned with her breakthrough film as an actress, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja, portraying a Tamil girl in her first Telugu language film, which subsequently fetched her the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

In the same year she won the Santosham Best Actress Award for her performance alongside Nagarjuna in her second Telugu film, Shivamani. Sonam in Rakesh's “SAHIBAAN”

It was said about the legendary Sahibaan that when she stepped out into the gallis of Punjab, the nine angels that guard the spheres died on seeing her beauty. And Sonam Kapoor, Bollywood's IT girl, is all set to play the ethereal Sahibaan in an ambitious screen adaptation by filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. While there have been many screen adaptations in Hindi and Punjabi of legendary romances like Heer-Ranjha, Laila-Majnu and Sohni-Mahiwal, so far no prominent film in Hindi is based on the Mirza-Sahibaan love story.

And it's probably because of the complicated nature of their relationship. According to sources, the idea came to Rakeysh during the making of Delhi-6. "Rakeysh would address Sonam as 'Bittu', the character she played in Delhi-6. Then suddenly one day he started calling Sonam 'Sahibaan'.

At first Sonam was baffled by this new name from Rakeysh who would pamper her to no end. But as the historical perspective and the literary antecedents of the character began to seep in, Sonam grew excited about the project and began to pester Rakeysh about the project," said the source.

For the actress, who is at the moment busy playing the Delhi socialite's version in Ayesha, which is based on Jane Austen's Emma, this would be the first occasion to do a costume drama. The fact that Sonam had was dressed in elaborate costumes in her debut Saawariya gave Rakeysh the idea that his 'Bittu' could indeed be his 'Sahibaan'. It's not yet known who will play Sahibaan's lover, Mirza. But rumours have it that Abhishek Bachchan will play the role. Confirming that Mirza-Sahibaan is indeed in the pipeline, Rakeysh Mehra said, "But, I still have to get down to writing it."

But Katrina has now become the first Indian beauty on whom the Barbie Doll will be modeled at the Barbie Museum.

Katrina, who was chosen as Miss Barbie at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai to mark the celebration of 50 years of Barbie earlier this year, had expressed her jubilation on being selected for the honour.

“I’d call it a fun honour. To have your face on dolls that you’ve played with from childhood is quite flattering...And I think in many ways it's an endorsement of how kids connect with me,” Katrina had said.

True to her name, Mallika enjoys queenly luxury whenever she is in Los Angeles. The Bollywood bombshell needs to shuffle between Mumbai and LA till the release of her upcoming film Hisss and has therefore rented a swanky penthouse at ‘The Palazzo’ at a prime location between Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

Mallika reveals to a tabloid that the penthouse is right next to the ‘Rodeo Drive’ which, she says, is “one of the shopping havens of the world”.Quite understandably, the place is expensive and Mallika is shelling out of lot of moolah as its rent. But she would rather squander her earnings on The Palazzo than settle for any other place.

The penthouse reportedly offers a panoramic view of the city. It has a private swimming pool, apart from the usual dining room, drawing room, two bedrooms and of course the private terrace. In fact, reports say the apartment also has an original Picasso painting. Mallika is expected to keep the apartment till September this year. However, if she bags another Hollywood project by then, she may even extend her stay.

‘Hisss’ is directed by Jennifer Lynch, daughter of the renowned filmmaker David Lynch. The movie has Mallika playing a snake-woman. The actress went through gruelling and painstaking make-up sessions while shooting the film.

Anushka signs two Yash Raj films

Shilpa turns down Akon

So I regretfully had to say no. But I’d rather not give anything less than my best when I’m representing my country.”

People weren’t expecting to see me there for the finals, but I was there and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself, both during the matches and during the performance. I’m really very impressed with the team’s performance and I think that Anil Kumble did an amazing job.”

Kat was excited about sharing the platform with Akon. “It was great. The energy and the atmosphere in the stadium was infectious. We were all so excited. The organisers had told us (Shiamak Davar, the choreographer of the show, and Katrina) that they wanted the closing ceremony to represent the spirit of the IPL. That’s why it wasn’t very Bollywood. It was more elegant, and it was all Shiamak’s idea. He said that there’s been enough dancing and that we should do something really different. Since Jai Ho! is an anthem of sorts today, we wanted the show to capture that spirit,” says Kat.

To everyone's surprise, Farhan Akhtar’s latest starrer Kartik Versus Kartik is turning out to be more fun than any of his previous starrers.

Admits Farhan in a candid interview , “My earlier films were somehow connected with the entertainment industry and therefore they had a direct per indirect bearing on my life. But in Kartik Versus Kartik I’m totally out of character. Also, in all my films so far I play a troubled introvert. In Kartik I start off as an introvert and then become a totally flamboyant guy. It’s fun.”

Says Farhan, “So far I presumed she was taller. I had even measured her height on my talk show Oye It’s Friday and I was okay with the fact that she looked taller than me. I’ve absolutely no problem being shorter than my heroine.”

On Sunday Deepika challenged the view. “She made me stand next to her. And to my surprise she turned out to be no taller. In fact maybe I’m a half-inch taller than her. Deepika says she isn’t as tall as she looks. It comes from having long legs I guess.”

The fun element spilt over on the sets of Kartik Versus Kartik on Sunday when Farhan’s co-star Deepika Padukone decided to end the controversy about how tall she is.

While Farhan’s father Javed Akhtar scripted Farhan’s Don remake, the sequel is Farhan’s idea.“When I opted for an open ending in Don I wasn’t leaving room for a sequel. I just wanted to show that the protagonist is cleverer than everyone else. But now that ending comes in handy to carry the story forward into a sequel.”

Farhan admits he’s having a ball shooting for Kartik. “But given a chance I’d like to direct a film this year. Unfortunately Voice From The Sky didn’t work out. And I start Don 2 next year.”

Farhan confirms the film will star Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra. “But there’re lots of supporting parts that will change.”

Asin to find her own house

Asin Thottumkal is finally ready to live independently. She recently moved out of her parents’ Lokhandwala apartment and has shifted into her own house at Green Acres, which is in the same locality. The actress permanently shifted base from Kerala to Mumbai once she made her mark in Bollywood with Ghajini after which she bagged films like London Dreams and The 19th Step among others. A close friend of Asin said, “She has been house hunting since 2007. It took her two years to move out of her parents’ house. She decided to stay by herself the day she turned 21.”

Asin doesn’t plan to hire an interior designer. “She is busy doing up her new house as she is determined to design it just the way she likes it. Asin has decided to keep the interiors young and contemporary with minimal furniture as she doesn’t want too much clutter,” added the friend. Asin said, “I had been looking for a house for a very long time. The back-to-back shooting and travel schedules kept me extremely busy. Finally, I have shifted into my own apartment and I am very happy with it.” Incidentally, Sridevi and Tabu live in the same society.

Asin, the most sought after actress now a days was born into a Syrian Christian family from Ernakulam in Kochi district, Kerala. Asin Thottumkal debuted in a supporting role in Sathyan Anthikkad's unsuccessful Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001, at the age of 15. After taking a year out to pursue her education, Asin returned with her breakthrough film as an actress, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja, portraying a Tamil girl in her first Telugu language film, which subsequently fetched her the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In the same year she won the Santosham Best Actress Award for her performance alongside Nagarjuna in her second Telugu film, Shivamani. Genelia D'Souza's role as Aditi was a role that every girl wanted to imitate. People even say no one could have played Aditi like Genelia did. Bipasha Basu in Trouble due to Andrabi

Asiya Andrabi, the leader of Dukhtaran-e-Millat group of activists, is a female fire-brand revolutionary leader in Indian controlled Kashmir. She believes that the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir should accede to Pakistan. She recently became furious on the news that Bipasha Basu will be portraying her role in the forthcoming film Lamhaa. Andrabi is mainly angry because her role is being portrayed by Bipasha Basu, who is known for revealing her voluptuous curves, playing vamps who scheme to steal other women’s husbands, and for her long-term affair with heart-throb actor and male model John Abraham. Andrabi was so angry that she decided to sue the makers of Lamhaa. Lamhaa is a Bollywood blockbuster about the plight of Kashmir and the lives of militants fighting Indian rule.

Andrabi became a militant women’s leader in the early 1980s and formed her own group. She formed the Dukhtaran e Millat group to campaign against families who married off their poor daughters, the payment of dowries and pornography. She even led a group of activists who mutilated Bollywood billboards showing revealing pictures of actresses including Bipasha Basu. Andrabi is a great supporter of Pakistan and wants that Kashmir should be allowed to leave Indian Union and join Pakistan. She says there are only two countries in the world "Muslims and non-muslims" and supports jihad to spread the power of Islam.

Andrabi is married and has two children. Her husband is a notorious Kashmiri militant. She observes purdah and wears a burqa in public. She is of the opinion that a woman’s place is in the kitchen. On receiving the information that she would be portrayed by none other than Bipasha Basu in the film, she immediately consulted her lawyers. But her worst fears became true when Bipasha flew to Srinagar with the leading man of the film Sanjay Dutt to start shooting.

According to Andrabi, "I don’t want to see my character played by a woman like Bipasha Basu who prefers to be seminude most of the times. She might be glamorous but she is an undignified woman and is part of the immorality spreading industry, Bollywood. I am a religious woman who believes in Islamic values, observes purdah and refrains from evil deeds. More importantly I am the only Asiya Andrabi on this earth, so let it be just one".

Andrabi claimed that she had done a number of meetings with the film's producer and was assured by the producer that she would be portrayed truthfully and sympathetic to the struggle of Kashmiri separatists. But now the director has cheated on his promise to show her a copy of the script before shooting. Bipasha Basu was even threatened due to which she had walked out last week claiming that her life was in danger, but has now resumed the shooting with some tight security around her. The producers have denied that any character in the film is based on Andrabi.

If not, there's Jason West who shot our 'Rock On!'. He can capture that subtle sleek look which the subject demands. Asin Thottumkal began her career in 2001 with an unsuccessful Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka. In 2003 she came back with a bang in the Telugu film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja. Her role in the film subsequently fetched her the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The same year she did her second Telugu movie titled Shivamani opposite Nagarjuna for which she bagged the Santosham Best Actress Award.

Her following two Telugu films in 2004 were, Lakshmi Narasimha and Gharshana and they proved to be two more solid hit films for her. Asin's first Tamil film was M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi, in which she co-starred with Jayam Ravi. The movie subsequently went on to become one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema, during 2004, introducing Asin to Tamil film industry.

In 2005 she returned to Telugu films with Chakram which became her first failure as a senior artiste. Then the same year she appeared in Ullam Ketkumae. This film, initially was launched in 2002 and was originally meant to be the launch for Asin as a lead actress. It was a college love story which was long-delayed but eventually became a successful venture at the box-office. After this movie, Asin became publicized as a leading heroine. She signed films with the four leading actors of the Tamil industry: Surya, Vikram, Vijay and Ajith in Ghajini, Majaa, Sivakasi and Varalaru respectively.

The Tamil film Ghajini, opposite Vikram provided the breakthrough for Asin to become the leading South Indian actress. Asin secured the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actress again, for Ghajini. Sify.com praised her portrayal in Ghajini as "magical".

The same year Asin had two big releases titled Sivakasi and Majaa. Sivakasi went on to become a successful venture at the box office while Majaa could only get an average response. In 2006 her long-delayed venture, Varalaru opposite Ajith Kumar, released and became the biggest blockbuster of the year in Tamil cinema. Although, the film was hero-centric and it retreated Asin to the sidelines, but her role was well acclaimed by critics.

Later that same year in 2006 Asin also starred in another Telugu box office hit Pawan Kalyan's Annavaram. This film enabled Asin to keep her popularity in Telugu films intact. In January 2007, Asin appeared opposite Ajith Kumar and Vijay in two different films, Aalwar and Pokkiri. Aalwar was a failure but Pokkiri became a super hit. Asin's role in Aalwar was criticized, but her performance in Pokkiri was lauded by critics. In 2007 her final project was Her final project of the year was Vel opposite Surya(co-star of Ghajini). Asin's role as a TV anchor, was appreciated in the film.

In 2008 Asin's first dual role film Dasavathaaram opposite Kamal Haasan which was under production since 2006 released. The film was made by K. S. Ravikumar and had Kamal Hasan portraying ten roles. This film became Asin's largest film till date. Asin's portrayals in the film were praised as her "best-to-date" performances. Dasavathaaram became one of the biggest blockbusters in South Indian film history.

After establishing herself as the leading actress in South India, Asin opted to move into Bollywood, to get nationwide fame. Her first Bollywood film is Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan. This film is the remake of her breakthrough film of the same name. The film has garnered positive reactions from critics and masses. Asin has been singled out for her "fabulous" portray. Critic, Taran Adarsh also has appreciated her acting skills.

The only other project Asin is committed to, as of 2009, is Vipul Shah's London Dreams alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, in which she plays a member of a five-troupe band. Asin Thottumkal who is popularly known as Asin, was born on October 26, 1985 in Kerela. She was born in a Syrian Christian family from Ernakulam in Kochi district, Kerala. Her father, Joseph Thotumkal, was a prominent business man before he gave up his business to manage the acting career for his daughter Asin. At present her father accompanies her to all her foreign shoots. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, is a surgeon and has also moved from Cochin to Chennai to Mumbai to live with her daughter. Asin quoted that her name "means without blemish and pure". She claims that "the 'A' in the name is from Sanskrit and word ‘Sin’ from English".

Asin currently is one of the most popular actresses in the South Indian Film Industry. Asin has also won awards in south Indian films. Riya Sen's first role was that of young Pooja in the film Vishkanya at the age of 10 in 1991. At the age of 18 Riya Sen's acting career started with Taj Mahal in 2000 opposite Manjoj Bharatiraja, a Tamil film by National Film Awards winning director Bharathiraja. But the film failed. Riya Sen's Bollywood debut movie initially was Love You Hamesha, opposite actor Akshaye Khanna but the film was interrupted in between, and she finally made her debut in Style in 2001, directed by N. Style was a low-budget sex comedy that was the first commercial success in over a decade for the director and it started a trend of commercial success for small budget movies in India. Riya Sen was caste as one of the female lead along with newcomers, Sharman Joshi, Sahil Khan and Shilpi Mudgal. Riya Sen's next successful film was Jhankaar Beats which is again a comedy movie and is produced by Pritish Nandy and directed by debutant director Sujoy Ghosh. Riya Sen the daughter of actress Moon Moon Sen, granddaughter of the Bengali Cinema Legend, Suchitra Sen and sister of Bollywood actress Raima Sen is a sexy actress and item girl who began her career in 1991 as a child artist in Vishkanya. Riya Sen is a Desi Bollywood Actress born on 24th January 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Her father Mr. Bharat Dev Varma also known as Bahrat Deb Burman in Bengali phonetic, is from the royal family of Tripura.

Riya Sen's paternal grandparents were Maharaja Ramendra Kishore Dev Varma of Tripura and his first wife Ila Devi, a Princess of Cooch Behar. Ila Devi's younger sister is Gayatri Devi the Maharani of Jaipur. Her paternal grandmother's parents were HH Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur, Maharaja of Cooch Behar and Indira Raje, Princess of Baroda only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda.

Riya's maternal great-grandfather was Adinath Sen who was a famous businessman in Kolkata, whose father Dinanath Sen was a Diwan or a Minister of the Maharaja of Tripura. Both the sisters Riya Sen and Raima Sen are known by their grandmother's maiden name "Sen" though their official papers have their surname as Dev Varma.

Riya Sen did her schooling from Loreto House and Rani Birla College, in Kolkata. After her schooling she took admission at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, and did jewelery-designing as a hobby. She now designs most of the clothes, she wears. Riya Sen is also trained in Kathak and is still pursuing it under the guidance of Vijayshree Chaudhury. Riya Sen has also taken lessons in kickboxing and has completed the 1st Level out of 5 in belly dancing.

Riya Sen first did some modeling assignments. At that time used to commute between Mumbai and Kolkata by public transport. But soon after her first break in Bollywood she moved from her mother's house in south Kolkata to Mumbai permanently. After doing a couple of movies and gaining stability in her career she shifted into the family house in Juhu, where she now stays with her sister Raima Sen.

Riya Sen was first romantically linked to model and actor John Abraham by the media. Then she dated actor Ashmit Patel the brother of actress Amisha Patel. Riya Sen has got into untimely troubles many times. One she was knocked down by a stuntman's bike on the sets of Shaadi No.1 in France. Luckily she was not seriously injured but got unconscious soon after being hit.

During the shooting of Silsilay, where she starred opposite to Ashmit Patel her then boyfriend, a video clip featuring both of them in compromising situations was circulated on the internet. Riya Sen even claimed that she was not the girl in the video clip. But the couple split after this incident and someone claimed that all this was a publicity stunt. In 2007, she underwent a brief detoxification session in Bangkok for addiction to chocolate.
